Go Woo-seok (26-photo), a former closer for LG Baseball, is headed to the U.S. Major League Baseball. The LG Baseball Organization has accepted the posting. His destination is San Diego.

"Go Woo-seok recently received an offer from a major league team in accordance with the posting procedure, and we decided to respect the player's wishes and send him to the major league team that sent the offer," LG said on Wednesday.

Go Woo-seok left the country earlier in the day to undergo a medical test and sign a contract with LG.

The team he will sign with is San Diego. The name of the team was revealed in the US media this morning. John Heyman, a reporter for the New York Post, posted on his social networking service (SNS), "Go Woo-seok's contract with San Diego is imminent. The team is expected to finalize the deal."

In fact, LG was aware that Ko was negotiating with San Diego and was informed of the terms of the deal by Ko's agent the previous night. LG reported to the group that morning and received an "acceptance" from the owner later in the day.

Go Woo-seok's entry into the U.S. through the posting system, rather than as a free agent, requires the permission of the original club. In determining whether LG accepted Ko's offer, the terms of the contract he received are actually the most important criteria. The total amount of the contract will determine the amount of the posting fee, or transfer fee, the club will receive. If it's $25 million or less, 20% of it is given to the original club. For a "big club" like LG, it would be detrimental to sign a player for less than $2 million for a contract worth $10 million or less.

According to sources, the terms of Ko's contract with San Diego do not appear to be high enough to satisfy LG. However, LG decided to let him go for the sake of his future and the cause of creating the first major leaguer from LG.

San Diego is home to South Korean major leaguer Ha-Sung Kim. The Padres lost bullpen depth in 2023 when closer Josh Hader left for free agency. Yuki Matsui, who became the youngest player to 안전놀이터 record 200 saves during his 10-year career with Rakuten in Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball, signed last month and will be joined by top Korean closer Woo-seok Ko.

The National League West, of which San Diego is a member, includes San Francisco, where Lee Jung-hoo joined, and the Los Angeles Dodgers, who recently signed Japanese players Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto. San Diego and the Dodgers will face off in the official opening series of the Major League Baseball on March 20-21 in Seoul.
